Susan,
I whole heartedly agree with your guidance. We often see technology companies work with designers to get a visually appealing website that is counter productive to attracting search engines or converting visitors. Most designers have a limited understanding of search engine friendly design guidelines and conversion strategies. Like you, I’m not knocking designers. The best advice for technology marketers is to keep their marketing agency involved, rather than design a new website with just a “designer.”
