Marketing Actions for Year End – Analyze Your Company’s Target Market.

If you’re in a part of the world that celebrates the Christmas and New Year holiday season, business may be a little slow right now. This is a great time for taking a good look at your marketing efforts.

Might as well start at the beginning – are you targeting the right prospects? Simple question, sure. But reality might surprise you.

The easiest way to identify your best prospects is to take a look at your best customers. By “best”, I mean the customers who are most profitable and the most pleasurable to work with. If you’re not able to identify the most profitable (shame on you), you can at least identify those who account for the most revenue.

In a previous post, we outlined a process for identifying your ideal customers and prospects. I won’t repeat it now as you can read it here. We encourage all of our clients to conduct this analysis annually. Since technology markets shift so frequently, it’s easy to miss a hot new opportunity.

Once you know who your best prospects are, go take a look at each of your marketing activities to be sure you’re aiming in the right direction.

With this exercise, you’ll accomplish two things:

  1. Stop or avoid spending marketing money and time chasing unprofitable and / or unpleasant customers.
  2. Focus your efforts in laser-like fashion on your best potential prospects.
